3 Hands-on Math Activities for Preschoolers to Keep Them Busy and Engaged
Math learning has been on continuous revival process. More
and more project-based learning in the curriculum is helping kids to increase
their curiosity about math. This blog will cover a few math activities for
preschoolers. So, if you are a teacher at a Montessori preschool in Singapore
or in a Chinese kindergarten, utilize some of these awesome math activity ideas
to enhance the math skills of your toddler bunch. Unlike other subjects, math
is exceptionally entertaining to teach and learn, if more actions are involved.
The following activities are entirely paper-free, and kids can learn while
having fun.
1. Counting spots on
the ladybugs
This activity would require you to make ten ladybugs out of
an egg carton box. Paint the carton red; cut the carton into 10 individual
shells. Fix rolling goggle eyes on each piece and draw antennas. Seek the help
of your enthusiastic kids to paint the ladybugs. Now draw one black spot on one
shell, two spots on the second and continue until you draw ten spots on your
last piece. Ask your students to arrange the ladybugs in ascending order of the
number of the black spot.
2. Comparing activity
using beakers
Teach simple measuring concepts like big or small and empty
or full using pouring skills with cups. Arrange for cups of different sizes and
fill in the cups with colorful plastic balls. Ask the kids to arrange the
beakers in the ascending order of magnitude or ask them to identify the ones that
are full or empty. You can teach as many concepts with this activity.
3. Shape wheel
activity
Teach your kids geometrical skills with clothespins and a
shape wheel. Prepare a big shape wheel with different shapes in each sector of
the wheel. Simultaneously, draw the shapes into different clothespins too. Ask
your kids to run and select clothespin from the tray and match it with the
shapes in the colours wheel. The activity is excellent for enhancing fine motor
skills of the kids.
Teachers can make math education even more fun by
introducing more and more Math based activities. Parents can also implement
these simple activities at home and prepare your young toddlers for Chinese
kindergartens or Montessori preschools in Singapore.
